Lady Gaga Or Britney Spears? RuPaul's Drag Queens Weigh In

'RuPaul's Drag Race' season three premieres Monday (January 24) on Logo.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Reluctantly crouched behind the red carpet line, drag queens primping and taking their time, the flashbulbs go off and the cameras go up, all of them yearning for their chance at the cup!

On Tuesday night, we caught up with the stars of "RuPaul's Drag Race" as they head into battle to see who will be the top drag queen of season three. Amid the glam and sequins in the air, competition was definitely on everyone's mind, so what better time to find out who RuPaul's drag queens predict will rule 2011: Lady Gaga or Britney Spears?

"With Britney and Gaga coming out with new [albums] this year — it's going to be Gaga," Shangela, of season two, predicted. "Gaga runs the world, so Britney better take a seat and enjoy."

Tough words about a woman who has reached the #1 iTunes spot in 19 countries since her new single, "Hold it Against Me," was released a little over a week ago.

Season three's Venus D Lite, who could give Madonna a run for her money, stated, "I would probably say Britney — only because Gaga has had her spotlight moment."

However, Raja, also from season three, disagreed: "I'm going to say Gaga. ... She challenges everyone and really puts out new ideas, and I certainly appreciate that."

With both artists set to premiere highly anticipated videos in the next couple of months, fans are waiting to see what new creative visions the stars will bring to the world of pop culture.

"I would love to see [Gaga] just be an artist and not just a character," said Sonique of season two. "With Lady Gaga, you can't really expect anything other than something that is going to be controversial."

season three castmember Mimi Imfurst, who arrived on the red carpet in an epic "worldly" outfit, is definitely on Team Gaga: "Lady Gaga has all the creativity that Britney doesn't have, plus all the talent she doesn't have, so Lady Gaga all the way."

When all is said and done, one thing's for sure: RuPaul's drag queens definitely aren't shy about expressing their opinions. Season three of "RuPaul's Drag Race" premieres Monday (January 24) at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. Central on Logo.

Who do you think will conquer 2011: Britney or Gaga? Sound off below!

Fashion Group International's 'Rising Star Awards'

This afternoon, I attended Fashion Group International?s 14th annual 'Rising Stars Awards' luncheon held at Cipriani 42nd Street. Thanks to all the snow from yet another major snowfall to hit the East Coast, it was in fact a perfect day to enjoy a Bellini or a glass of wine, a warm and satisfying lunch (the food at all the Cipriani establishments is consistently great), and more importantly, was a perfect opportunity to toast fashion?s ?Generation Next?.

During the course of FGI President Margaret Hayes?s welcoming address, she listed the 8 categories which are represented, emphasized the importance of programs which support emerging talent, and touched upon the selection process (there are over 100 nominees, approximately 1200 eligible voters - out of which 150 actually voted), and the significance of the final vote (it is a ?reflection of the consuming public?). She then congratulated the finalists on their collective ?talent, skill, commitment, and fortitude.?

Next up to the podium was the Host of the festivities, Jamie Pallot, Editorial Director of Conde Nast Digital, who wasted no time in his pronouncements: ?Snow is the ?new? black?; ?Fashion is the ?new? showbiz?; ?The 'Rising Star Awards' are the ?new? Golden Globes?; and no, ?I?m NOT the ?new? Ricky Gervais?, which got a laugh from the crowd.

He spoke about Fashion Group?s history (the organization was founded in 1930, and its founding members were Elizabeth Arden, Edith Head, and Eleanor Roosevelt), and made mention of the increasing high profile and importance of the Annual 'Night of Stars', listing some of fashion?s biggest names on the planet, who have been honored in the past. But as he observed, ?The main reason we are here today, is to support emerging talent?, and he noted that the ?Rising Stars? could be considered as the ?kid sister? of the 'Night of Stars'. He continued, ?While the finalists being honored today may not have reached the top of the pinnacle just yet, they are valiantly scaling the foothills of this business.?

At this point, a 4 course lunch was served, and then Norma Kamali, the Keynote Speaker, came up, delivering a speech that was short, sweet, to the point, and obviously came straight from the heart. She proceeded to weave in the word ?star? throughout her address, all the while humbly dismissing it vis a vis herself, saying, ?I?m not a star and have never felt like a star?. (Sorry Norma, I think many would disagree; YOU ARE A STAR!)

She offered her own words of wisdom for the youthful finalists, some of whom may well be on the verge of ?stardom?: ?A Rising Star Award is a good thing and a bad thing. Being on the rise is a scary, awesome experience. I?m not a star. I?m just in my own little constellation in the sky and I love it. I do what pleases me. Becoming a star has its highs and lows and it could be a curse. You have to decide WHAT you want and WHO you are. Longevity is more important than stardom.?

Norma continued: ?I?m grateful for all the times I?ve fallen because it?s forced me to get up and pick myself up and reinvent myself.? ?I welcome you into my constellation. It?s a wonderful place to be.?

Then came the presentation of the awards. FYI, leave it to Linda Fargo to make the best comments. When she came up to announce the winner in the Retail division, she thanked all those who are forging ahead in the retail arena, doing their best to ensure that retail stays alive, considering that it might become an endangered species thanks to our current ?virtual reality?.

Walking the Walk: Our Favorite Strolls In The City Of Angels

lake-hollywood-walk-los-angeles-site.jpg

It's time to park your car and hit the pavement. Though L.A.'s not known as a great walk city, what with our miles of freeway and underwhelming transit system, there's plenty of gorgeous sites to see that are best seen by foot. We've rounded up two of our favorite walks in the city for those rambling afternoons when you just have to get out of the house and soak up this insanely beautiful Los Angeles weather.

Beachwood Canyon to Lake Hollywood Park
Total Distance: 1.2 Miles
For an easy blend of hike and dog walk, start with your morning coffee at a local favorite, Village Coffee Shop. Take Beachwood Drive north, curving up through the mix mid-century, Spanish revival, and Deco homes built between the 20s and 40s. By the time you're rounding Mulholland Drive and headed to the park you'll be struck by the gorgeous city views and the Hollywood sign overhead. Quite an L.A. moment for a short walk. At Lake Hollywood Park you can take your dog for a run around the grass, or cool down under a shady tree.
Village Coffee Shop
2695 North Beachwood Drive (at Belden Drive); 323-467-5398.
Lake Hollywood Park
3160 Canyon Drive (at Mulholland Highway); 323-666-5046.

los-angeles-best-walks-los-angeles-site.jpg

Santa Monica Canyon
Total Distance: 2.2 Miles
Before you set out to explore one of the Westside's most historic areas, pop into Andrew's Cheese Shop to pick up some prosciutto and scamorza sandwiches for a quick picnic. From there, head down 7th Street and right up San Lorenzo Street to the historic Marquez Family Cemetery, hidden behind a grove of avocado trees and surrounded by a wall designed by famed architect John Byers. The tiny plot was established in 1840s that is all that remains of the once expansive Rancho Boca de Santa Monica. What better way to end your trip down the canyon than at the Rustic Canyon Uplifter's Lodge, over looking tranquil Rustic Canyon Park. Designed by the noted architect William J. Dodd, the Uplifters Clubhouse, built in 1923, still stands as the Rustic Canyon Recreation Center in the Santa Monica Canyon. So whip out those sandwiches and enjoy a patch of shade in the gorgeous Uplifter's courtyard.
Andrew's Cheese Shop
728 Montana Avenue (at Lincoln Boulevard); 310-393-3308.
Marquez Cemetery
631 San Lorenzo Street (at Mesita Way); no phone.
Rustic Canyon Uplifters Lodge
601 Latimer Road (at Brooktree Road); 310-454-5734.

Deadmau5 Brings Dance Music To The 'Masses,' Wolfgang Gartner Says

'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.
By Adam Stewart

It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.

Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top.

"He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love."

Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre.

"Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it."

Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.

"It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process."

Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.

"[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music."

The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track.

"I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical."

What do you think 2011 will hold for deadmau5 and Gartner? Let us know in the comments below!

The Ladies Brighten Up the SAGs Red Carpet in Style!

TV and film's finest actresses stepped out for the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA this evening. White was a huge theme with Glee's Lea Michele and Eva Longoria both donning neutral gowns - who do you think wore the trend well? Best actress winner Natalie Portman covered her bay bump in a fitted Azzaro while Amy Adams got wrapped up in a tight Herv Leroux dress. Jane Krakowski upped the glamour with sparkle in her one-shoulder Badgley Mischka sheath. The accessories added a bit of sparkle to every ensemble, and Fab's taking a closer look at the amazing earrings.

The night wasn't all about neutrals though, with other stars stepping out in a spectrum of color. Tina Fey looked red hot in Oscar de la Renta and Mila Kunis was a standout in a similar hued Alexander McQueen. Modern Family's Sofia Vergara showed off her figure in a bright blue Roberto Cavalli while Claire Danes wore Louis Vuitton to accept her best actress statue for Temple Grandin.

Lots of ladies wore black for the event, but their looks were anything but basic. Mad Men's January Jones was ladylike in a lacy Carolina Herrera and Dianna Agron and Nicole Kidman also showcased the delicate detail in their dresses - who wore it best? Christina Hendricks, in L'Wren Scott, looked dramatic on her way into the show while funny woman Amy Poehler kept it simple in a short LBD. Make sure to weigh in on your favorites with all of Fab and Bella's Love It or Leave It polls!

SAG Awards Set Designer Says Show's Vibe Will Be 'Elegant'

Joe Stewart tells MTV News that Sunday night's festivities will look 'beautiful.'
By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Kelly Marino

At Sunday night's SAG Awards, Hollywood's best and brightest will be lauded by their peers. And it's up to the show's production designer, Joe Stewart, to make sure that this year's winners collect their hardware in a venue that is as spiffy as humanly possible.

Stewart spoke to MTV News on Friday while preparations at the Shrine were well underway, and broke down the glamorous atmosphere of the production.

"This year, what we wanted to do was have a beautiful, elegant environment," he said. "The vibe of this show is always pretty elegant — because first of all, I mean, you're at an awards show; the attendees and the recipients are always wearing gowns and tuxedos. It's a black-tie event, so you always have to have a set that ... people can settle into and look good. So this set is supposed to be a sort of swell interior where ladies in gowns can look at home."

Setting up a venue worthy of a televised, A-list trophy handout takes planning, and Stewart said that putting the look of the event together took months.

"We prepare for this show in advance quite a while. I think that we started working on this in October, maybe even September with the preliminary conceptual ideas to get us going," he said. "It's a committee, we all have to get together, find time and meet and sooner or later we come to a consensus and start the work."

Outfitting the legendary event space with a glitzy look appropriate enough for SAG nominees like Natalie Portman and Nicole Kidman to sashay into is no easy task. However, Stewart pointed out that the space not only has to appear super glam, but the room also has to be transformed into a top-tier set able to accommodate a live coast-to-coast broadcast of the ceremony.

"Always, the challenging part of this is the space," he said. "There's a transformation that happens in this space. We completely black it out and then rig it, and the rigging you can see above head is how we hang everything up. And we basically take a room that isn't supposed to be a television studio or a theater and turn it into a glamorous event. But it has to function and have all the whistles and bells that a television studio would have and catering an event."

After months of planning, Stewart's job will finally wrap up Sunday when the show airs. While he admitted that handing over his handiwork to the stage managers makes him "pace backstage," Stewart revealed the special way he gets to indulge in the excitement of the evening.

"I get a little place backstage and I can see and congratulate winners, and I really enjoy doing that," he smiled. "When they come off the stage it's fabulous."

Stick with MTV News for SAG Awards coverage throughout the weekend and from the red carpet on Sunday night!

Ke$ha Reflects On 'Really Intense' Breakout Year

Billboard cover girl is the magazine's Hot 100 Artist of the Year.
By James Dinh

Ke$ha on the cover of the December issue of Billboard
Photo: Billboard

She was overlooked by the Grammys, but Ke$ha dominated radio and the charts in 2010 with her Auto-Tuned electro-pop and a distinctive "garbage chic" style that had everybody talking.

In the latest issue of Billboard, the party-girl pop star opens up about her whirlwind rise to the top, saying she has no regrets about her breakthrough year.

"Are you kidding me? I pretty much feel like I've been reborn into this completely different existence," the singer told the magazine when asked how life had changed for her. "My entire life has become making music and playing shows, and I love it. I've accepted the fact that my fans are now my family, and I won't be having boyfriends. I'll just be having a really amazing relationship with the radio."

The pop star said that although she "wasn't clueless" about what fame might bring, it far exceeded her expectations. "It's just not at all what I expected it to be like," she said. "It's really intense, more intense than I ever thought it would be."

Recalling paparazzi chasing her as she made her arrival at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, Ke$ha said, "I was having an anxiety attack, like, 'I just wrote some pop songs, man!' "

Ke$ha, who graces the mag's cover wearing a crown as she pops a bottle of champagne, also talked about her big debut single, saying, "Sometimes I need to remind myself that 'Tik Tok' only went to #1 in January, because it kind of feels like it was 17 years ago."

The mag went on to ask if "Tik Tok" was the best way to introduced herself to the public. "I don't know. We didn't really know which song to come out with first," Ke$ha said. "It was kind of a debate, because I didn't initially come out as a rapper; I've always been a singer. So having my first single classified as kind of a rap song felt bizarre to me. But now it's become something of a trademark, and it's becoming more legitimate. I've talked to some of my favorite rap artists over the past year — artists who are idols — and they've given me mad props."

What was your favorite Ke$ha moment of 2010? Tell us in the comments!

Halle vs. Bee: Who Wore Nina Ricci Best?

Whether you hated it or loved it, there's no doubt you have an opinion about Halle Berry's Golden Globes dress. While most women on the red carpet go for the latest, greatest gown available, Halle decided to keep it real, opting for a black 2009 Nina Ricci dress with a chiffon train. She accessorized with bold diamond bangles on each arm, simple strappy sandals, and her signature short 'do.

In May 2009, the dress made a fashionable appearance on Bee Shaffer, daughter of the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour. Bee sported the navy version to the MET Costume Institute Gala, pairing it with black peep-toe pumps and diamond drop earrings. While we think both women looked sexy and stylish, we want to know what you think. Who wore Nina Ricci best?

Justin Bieber Addresses Dangers Of Texting And Driving On 'Extreme Makeover'

Bieber will appear on Sunday's episode with the Brown family of Wellman, Texas.

Justin Bieber will make a surprise appearance on the feel-good ABC show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on Sunday. In the episode, the singer meets the Brown family of Wellman, Texas, who are helping raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving after their eldest daughter Alex was affected by it.

The episode was shot back in November, according to AceShowbiz.com, and in it, Bieber not only pledges to give back to the cause, but also makes daughter Katrina Brown and her friends' day with some one-on-one time.

"So I'm really glad you guys can come. Every night we have a banner that goes up and it says 'don't text and drive' so every night all these kids see it so it definitely means a lot to me as well," he told the family. "We're gonna give $1 from every ticket sold to your cause. I always do this sound-check party and I wanted to invite you guys to come and hang out."

"I did not know what to do," Katrina admits in the preview clip for the two-hour episode, which also features Emma Roberts and NASCAR drivers Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle. "I did not know how to react."

Bieber also opens up a bit more about joining the cause. "It's been a big part of my life to influence others not to text and drive," he explained. "And every night when I perform, I have a video that comes up and it says 'don't text and drive' and it's me driving. It's just really important to me."

The encounter will also reportedly be featured in Bieber's upcoming 3-D flick, "Never Say Never." In a trailer released earlier this month, Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, opened up about how lucky he feels. "Me and the guy from 'Extreme Home Makeover' have the best jobs in the world," Braun explains in the new clip. "It's actually the most gratifying thing about the job. Little things go a very long way. You get paid to just make other people happy."

Bieber isn't the only pop star who works with the cause. The Jonas Brothers are also avid spokesmen for Allstate's "X the Text" campaign. "We're a part of the X the Text campaign with our sponsor Allstate, which is an amazing thing," Kevin Jonas told MTV News back in August. "So many teen drivers and drivers out there have accidents texting while driving, and it's such a [great] thing to bring awareness to this."

Kristen Stewart's 'Breaking Dawn' Vampire 'Scared' Elizabeth Reaser

'Twilight' co-star tells MTV News, 'I thought, 'This might not end well. She's looking pretty pissed right now.' '

PARK CITY, Utah — Ever since Kristen Stewart spilled the beans at the People's Choice Awards that she had been filming "Breaking Dawn" as a vampire that day, it's all we can think about when we get the chance to talk to one of her "Twilight Saga" co-stars.

Elizabeth Reaser, who plays Esme Cullen in the film franchise, teased at the Sundance Film Festival this week that there have been some crazy vampire scenes on set recently.

"There's been some really cool stuff in the Cullen house with Bella," Reaser revealed to MTV News. "There's been some interesting transformations happening."

Sounds to us like director Bill Condon has been filming the famous "Breaking Dawn" birthing scene, and that Reaser got a chance to see Bella's transformation into a vampire. Producer Wyck Godfrey already shared that the birthing scene will be shown from Bella's perspective to keep with the film's PG-13 rating, but as Reaser witnessed the whole scene unfold, what was her impression of Stewart's transformation?

"She scared me a little bit on Thursday, I'll be honest with you," Reaser said. "Because when vampires are newborns, they're stronger than any other vampires, so for a second there I thought, 'This might not end well. She's looking pretty pissed right now.' It was great."

Reaser's praise of Stewart's performance as vampire Bella matches with what co-stars Robert Pattinson and Peter Facinelli had to say about it at the Golden Globes. Pattinson told MTV News it felt like Stewart "wanted to do it the entire time."

"It's really funny, it's like a completely different environment on set when she's a vampire and when she's not," he said. "I think she's going to do it really well."

In the books, Bella becomes much more confident after transforming into a vampire, so it's fitting that Stewart is coming into her own with the role. Facinelli jokingly credited vampire contact lenses as the real reason Stewart is doing so much better.

"She's doing really well. She looks fantastic," Facinelli raved. "For some reason, once they put those contact lenses in, you look very statuesque."

Katy Perry's World Tour: Candy, Cupcakes and Meat, Oh My!

Katy Perry's World Tour: Candy, Cupcakes and Meat, Oh My!

Katy Perry is about to embark on her first headlining tour -- and she's giving it the same wonderfully wacky treatment that she brings to her red carpet fashions. Perry, 26, tells Rolling Stone that she is approaching her worldwide "California Dreams" tour as if it's a Broadway show.

"It's got a storyline...kind of loosely based on my life, but a cartoon version," explains Perry, who says she'll be doing no less than 15 costume changes throughout the show. She also has some pretty unique ideas about the atmosphere she wants to create -- even down to how the theater will smell.

"It's the first concert that's going to smell good," she promises. "It's going to smell like you're in cotton candy heaven."

So does that mean she's taking a cue from her fabulous Candyland-themed "California Gurls" video? Yes indeed -- but this time, she's adding some protein.

"I have this whole thing in my show that is about candy and cupcakes and meat," she says. "It's both sweet and shocking, but not in a sexual way." Intriguing!

The 95-date tour kicks off in February, but fans may get a sneak peek when Perry performs at the Grammys on February 13th. Though she's keeping her rehearsals under lock and key, she says that it's going to be her "favorite performance ever."

In addition to being nominated for four Grammys, Perry also is leading the nominees for Celeb Whose Wild Style We Can't Get Enough Of in our iVillage Entertainment Awards. Think she can yank the title out from under Lady Gaga? Cast your vote now!

Do you like Katy Perry's idea of a concert that smells like cotton candy and feels like a Broadway show? Chime in below!

Lady Gaga Premieres Born This Way Short Film

Film, starring 'Zombie Boy,' features remixed song and footage from Thierry Mugler fashion show.

The world may at last have a first glimpse of what Gaga has up her sleeve for Born This Way, thanks to a short film made for designer Thierry Mugler. The film, directed by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, is set to the remixed song that Gaga debuted at the Mugler menswear show in Paris on Wednesday.

The black-and-white video, which premiered on Stylist.com and Mugler.com on Thursday (January 20), features Canadian model Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, whose body and face are tattooed to look like a skeleton. It opens with voiceover of Gaga saying, "I don't speak German, but I can if you like," as the camera focuses on Zombie Boy, rocking a studded helmet. Footage of Zombie Boy is edited together with models walking the catwalk in Mugler designs.

Zombie Boy mugs for the camera wearing a leather jacket and pearls while Gaga sings in German, "I'm absolutely clear/ As long as I'm a monster/ I wish we all could be blind/ It would be easier out there." She repeats the phrase and the beat plays low under her anthem.

There is very little pop in the dark, subversive club jam, reminiscent of a '90s club track. The vibe of the video is an extension of her equally fashionable clip for "Alejandro," which was styled by Nicola Formichetti, who happens to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler.

Zombie Boy is later seen walking in a city, wearing street clothes, as Gaga sings in English, "I'll take you out tonight/ Say whatever you like," accompanied by a pulsing beat. The video closes with a model walking down the runway as the song fades out.

Gaga remixed the song herself for the show. "I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess," she said of Formichetti in a statement about the show. "But don't tell him I said that, he'll die. He picked them all out."

Katie Holmes: "The Son of No One" in Sundance

Helping to close out another year in Park City, Katie Holmes attended a screening of "The Son Of No One" during the 2011 Sundance Film Festival on Friday evening (January 28),

The "Dawson's Creek" darling looked to be in high spirits as she was joined at the event by James Ransone, Channing Tatum, Jake Cherry, Ray Liotta and director Dito Montiel.

The visit comes after Miss Holmes' movie opened to awful reviews at the annual film extravaganza a few days back.

An attendee told press, "When Katie showed up on screen, there was a collective groan. She plays the wife of a Queens' cop [Tatum] and she was completely miscast. They have her cursing a lot. And when she swore, there were chuckles."

"She was wrong for it. Al Pacino's acting in the movie was intentionally over the top, and he did it with a wink. Most of the cast seemed in on the joke -- except for Katie. She was acting like she was in a dramatic Sundance indie, when it's really just a typical cop movie."

SAG Awards Seating Chart: Where 'Glee' Sits Next To 'True Grit'

For Sunday's awards show, producer explains science behind celebrity seating.
By Kelly Marino

SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell

LOS ANGELES — The Screen Actors Guild Awards are coming up on Sunday, and preparations are already well under way at the Shrine Auditorium. The stage is coming together, the list of presenters is close to being finalized and, most importantly, the seating arrangements are being mapped out.

"It depends on the size of the cast," SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell explained when MTV News asked how the seating chart is determined. "It also depends on if they were here the year before. If the TV cast was down front, we are probably going to put them further back this year. We also try to be democratic between film and TV."

The ceremony will take place in an intimate dinner setting where both film and TV actors will be seated next to their peers. Throughout the show, the celebrities can nosh on food provided by Lucques Catering and sip on Dry Creek wine and Taittinger Champagne while they celebrate one another's work.

The Guild seats the film casts next to the TV casts in order to allow everyone to visit and mingle in between acts. For example, the first few tables located in the front of the venue have place cards for the cast of "True Grit" seated next to the cast of "Glee." Moving more toward the center of the room reveals the actors of "The Kids Are All Right" seated next to the guys from "30 Rock." And a quick look around the rest of the room shows the ensemble from "The Closer" seated next to "Modern Family," who are across from the cast of "The Fighter" and "Hot in Cleveland."

"Actors are actors. They don't care that they are on TV. In fact, you know, film actors are very, very fond of watching actors on TV and vice versa," Connell said.

The 17th annual SAG Awards will air live on TNT and TBS this Sunday at 8p.m. ET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
